February email update:

Thanks for the opportunity to work with the Level One and Two team at Badger Creek PS the other week. I look forward to working with the Level 4 team at Rolling Hills Primary next week. I am also keen to work with our Specialist Team as they have the fortune to work across the whole school.

It has been great to start with a Level 4 class on the student survey. Some interesting insights into their perceptions of their learning already J.

I have been exploring learning styles.  Since I am asking you to give up your time to participate in this inquiry project, I thought I'd share my findings with you.

Learning Styles exploration 1: http://www.ldpride.net/learning-style-test.html
I have undertaken the test and paid to access my results. [$8.50 US] which also included a book on helping your learning style. I have attached both as I found them interesting [and not quite as predictable as I thought!].

Learning Styles exploration 2: The Dunn and Rundle inventory: http://www.learningstyles.net/en/user-home I found this to suit the BER buildings and learning styles better. I have undertaken the survey and paid for my report [$5 US] -   I did the adult survey and there are surveys for all ages from age 7.

I have a long background in Gifted Education, so have been exploring Learning Styles since the 1980s. There are MANY around - I think that for the purpose of this inquiry project, it is best to stick to the simpler learning styles of VARK and/or the Dunn model.

21st century learners pose a lot more questions about their learning characteristics/styles - whilst research is being done on their need for socialisation, communication, media influences, short sharp bursts of information, mobility, etc. there is not yet an inventory survey/test/questionnaire that I could find.

Other good stuff to browse through:
http://www.learningstyles.net/en/teaching-resources/web-links-ideas - this really caters for the 21st century learner and their learning needs with good pointers for teachers to accommodate learning styles and learning spaces.
http://www.slideshare.net/LoriReed/21st-century-learners-21st-century-learning- I thought this was really good thinking and easy to flip through.
